Supreme Court to entertain legal arguments into petition seeking to prevent Lofa County Senator-elect from being certificated

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Presiding Justice in Chambers of the Supreme Court of Liberia is expected to entertain legal argument today Monday, March 29, 2021, into a petition seeking to prevent the National Elections Commissions from certificating Lofa County Senator-elect, Brownie Samukai.

This follows Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe’s March 9, 2021 Alternative Writ of Prohibition as pray for by the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC), to stop Mr. Samukai’s endorsement as Senator of Lofa County consistent with Chapter 16, Section 16.21 (3) of the Civil Procedure Law of Liberia.

MPC’s petition claimed that the former Defense Minister is not to occupy the position, due to his conviction by the Supreme Court for misapplying the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) Soldiers’ Pension Funds, during the administration of Ex-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

Monday’s legal proceedings will determine whether Justice Nagbe will issue the peremptory Writ of Prohibition consistent with Chapter 16, Section 16.21 of the Civil Procedure Law of Liberia.
