Peace Laureate, Leymah Gobwee calls for combined educational approach – commends Learning Squared Liberia’s works in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Liberia’s Peace Noble Laureate, Leymah Gobwee is recommending a combined approach to the Liberian education system to enhance quality education in the country.

Madam Gbowee wants educational stakeholders in the sector including scholarship funding and micro-finance organizations like Learning Squared Liberia (LSL) and Government shift to trade, talent development, and empowerment, spiritual and emotional education to better the lives of Liberian youth.

The Liberian activist made the statement Friday, March 19, 2021, in her Keynote address when she officially launched the operations of Learning Square Liberia, in Monrovia.

According to Madam Gbowee: “No strange leader can deliver the education system from the spilled over deficits affecting all sectors of the country except the children of this generation”. She also praised Learning Squared Liberia for the launch of its programs benefiting 300 students from 12 schools in five counties; as 50 trained women are also on the entity’s Social Micro-finance program.

Learning Square Liberia is an educational NGO in Liberia, founded in 2016 and providing affordable, quality, education for children and empowering women in rural Liberian communities.

The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) and President of Learning Squared Liberia, Anthony Kolaco said over four years, they initially worked with 17 students from a school in one county but the number increased to 12 schools in five counties with 300 hundred students  and 50 women trained in Social micro-finance   in Liberia.

Mr. Kolaco thanked the Board Members, donors, their supporters and the Ministry of Education for the continue support and pointed out number of recognitions from GlobalGiving of LSL in four categories and listed the publication of the organization’s newsletter, and  the distribution of more than 300 backpacks to students’ beneficiaries in Liberia, among others.

“We are proud to have achieved all these, despites the incredible challenging   years it has been but in it all our teams in Liberia and USA, California and volunteers made the difference”, he said.
