MONROVIA, LIBERIA – About 13 Public Schools in Gbarpolu County have reportedly closed due to the retirement of over eighty teachers in the county.

Over 80 public School teachers are affected by the exercise, something that is posing serious preparation challenges to students expected to sit the West African Senior School Certificate Exams.

ELBC Gbarpolu County Correspondent quotes parents, students and educational stakeholders in county as appealing to government to ensure the affected teachers are reinstated.

When contacted, Assistant Education Minister for Early Childhood Education, Thelma Manston-Nommo, said the Ministries of Education and Finance in consultation with the Legislative Caucus of the County have put hold to the retirement process.

Minister Nommo asserted that in a consultative meeting, the stakeholders agreed to reinstate the retired teachers along with volunteers and include them on Government’s Payroll.
