NaFAA Boss Calls for Strong Global Action on Fishing Safety

The Director-General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), Emma Glassco is admonishing all governments around the world to ratify the 2012 Cape Town Agreement on fishing safety.

Madam Glassco said such global action is needed to help in addressing casualties at sea, stressing that fishing is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.

Speaking Wednesday via video link at an international Maritime Conference, Madam Glassco called on governments to adopt policies consistent with the 2012 Cape Town Agreement on the design and construction of new vessels.

The NaFAA Boss then pledged the Liberian government’s support towards the ratification of the Cape Town Agreement and called on world leaders to prioritize routine safety training for seafarers at least once a year.
