Criminal Court ‘C’ reserves ruling in the case involving 4 ex-officials of the Central Bank of Liberia

MONROVIA,LIBERIA-Ruling has been reserved in the case involving four ex-Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) officials, following Wednesday, August 19,2020, legal argument at Criminal Court ‘C’.

The four ex-CBL officials, David Farhat, Elsie Dossen-Badio, Kollie Tamba and Milton Weeks are on trial for multiple offenses, ranging from economic sabotage, theft of property and misused of public fund.

George Yamie Gbeisay then announced Tuesday, August 25, 2020, as the date to render his judgment to convict or acquit consistent with law.

Defense lead lawyer, Cllr. Abraham Sillah, argued that co-defendant Milton Weeks did not and could not have conspired, colluded and connived with Crane Currency and or any of the other co-defendants, to conceal the actual amount of Liberian Dollar banknotes printed.

Cllr. Sillah told the court that to play the blame game and divert the attention of the Liberian public from the actual and obvious, the alleged additional two-billion-six-hundred-forty-five-thousand does not and did not exist in the real world of the CBL’s interaction with Crane Currency, and that the allegation thereof is but a smear campaign and ploy by the prosecution in the notorious mismanagement of the Country’s limited finances.

Former Justice Minister Gloria Musu Scott, who is one of the defense lawyers, argued before the court that prosecution did not establish any traceable accounts of the defendants, where the two-point-six-billion Liberian Dollar banknotes were kept.
