Liberia National Bar Association Upholds Executive Council’s Decision to Expel Cllr. Ndubusi Nwabudeki

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA), Thursday, August 13, 2020 filed its response, maintaining the decision of the Executive Council of the LNBA to expel from its membership, the Chairman of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, Cllr. Ndubusi Nwabudeki.

The Bar has deposited a cash bond of US$500 to have the writ of preliminary injunction lifted, saying that the Civil Law Court lacks jurisdiction over the LNBA, and that the petition for judicial review is time barred.

The LNBA in a nine count motion, among others, said the petition for preliminary injunction filed by the lawyers representing Cllr. Nwabudeki should be denied and dismissed because it is belated.

The Liberian Bar Association also said the writ will not lie because it was filled beyond the statutory period of 30 days and that a decision from the hearing from an administrative board for judicial review should be filed within 30 days, noting that it is nearly two months since they took the action to expel Cllr. Nwabudeki.

The LNBA says, it decision to expel Cllr. Nwabudeki was a result of public notice during his confirmation hearing, where he could not prove his Liberian citizenship, when asked to produce his naturalization papers.

It further said, the petition for preliminary injunction field by Cllr. Nwabudeki’s legal team is misleading and that the Bar is not an agency of government as defined by law.
