Supreme Court reserves ruling into complaints against some judicial officials

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Supreme Court has reserved ruling into complaints against some judicial officials, in connection with their respective duties.

It followed the submission of several recommendations from both the Judiciary Inquiry and Grievance and Ethics Committees, respectively.

The recommendations include suspensions, warnings, restitutions and disbarment, as alternative punishments for lawyers and judges found guilty of ethical breaches in the discharge of their duties.

According to ELBC Judiciary Reporter, the Supreme Court announced its decision Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at its sixteen Day Session.

In remarks, Chief Justice Francis Korkpor said:”The Full Bench will render its opinion on the complaints, to uphold ethical standards and independence of the Judiciary.”

Cases arising from the complaints include River Cess Debt Court, Judge Peter Massan, and two Associate Magistrates from Nimba County, Daniel Konah, Judge Peter Fanieh, Cllr. Samuel Pearson and Atty. Joseph Doe among others.
