State prosecutors are confident in the ongoing ex-Central Bank officials’ criminal case

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-State prosecutors say they are not troubled by the recent submission of the communication to Crane Currency by Justice Minister Musa Dean, in connection with four ex-CBL officials’ criminal trial at Criminal Court ‘C’.

On July 28, 2020, Cllr. Dean surrendered his January 10, 2020, communication to the Court, dropping the indictment against the Swish Company.

Minister Dean’s decision was based on a Writ of Subpoena prayed for by Defense Lawyer, Cllr. Abraham Sillah with the objective of building a strong defense for their clients against the Government of Liberia.

But State Prosecutor, Cllr. Lafayette Gould, told ELBC Judicial Correspondent Wednesday, August 5, 2020, that the Attorney General’s account cannot damage their case theory to obtain conviction for the defendants, saying Crane Currency’s exit from the trial is consistent with law.

Cllr. Gould, however, boasted of a strong and convincing evidence to implicate the ex-CBL officials to the crimes, despite the defendants’ not-guilty pleas as provided for in Chapter 25, Section 25.5 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.

Defendants Milton Weeks, Elsie Dossie Badio, Kollie Tamba and David Farhat are on trial at Criminal Court ‘C’ for allegedly printing extra two billion Liberian Dollars without authorization from the 53rd Legislature.
