Illicit Mining, Wildlife Hunting Reported in Gola Forest National Park

BOMI COUNTY, LIBERIA – Reports say the Gola Forestry National Park (GFNP) is under immense human threats due to illicit Mining, wildlife hunting and encroachment.

The mining and hunting are being reportedly carried by a notorious hunter popularly known as “County” while some people are trying to encroach on the Park.

The notorious hunter was arrested in May 2020, in a joint security operation to stop his operation in the Park.

A Local Journalist in the area, Lawrence Shebor, said the presence of the hunterin the Gola Forest National Park is a threat to Park.

At the same time, the Paramount Chief of Porkpa District, Jamiatu Watson, said the people of the District have resolved to resist any encroachment on the Park. Investigation continues.
