Five Finance Ministry’s Employees Jailed Over Alleged Commission of Multiple State Crime

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Five employees of the Ministry of Finance have been jailed at the Monrovia Central Prison on the commission of multiple state crimes.

Employees William Joe, Nathaniel Gibson, Emmanuel Bryant, Jeremiah Gbelley and Alhaji Lamine Sambollah were imprisoned by the Monrovia City Court.

They were earlier charged by the court with economic sabotage, forgery, criminal conspiracy, theft fraud on the internal revenue of the Liberian Government and criminal facilitation.

The employees had been charged by the Liberian Government for stealing five-million Liberian Dollars and eighty-three-thousand United States Dollars from the Government.

They were carried to court based on a complaint filed by the Liberian Government through the National Security Agency (NSA), as a result of a result of a tip off from the inner circle at the Ministry.

According to the writ, the five suspects, during the period March – June 2020, allegedly fraudulently connived, conspired and stole blank checks from the Ministry and placed their own figures on them encashed same and criminally converted the amounts into their personal use.
