Pres. Weah wants African Leaders support Private Sector

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has emphasized the need for African leaders to support the private sector in the ongoing global health crisis.

President Weah said:” As an essential partner to government, the private sector must be prioritized at all times.”

The Liberian Leader said:” Stimulating growth in the private sector would help mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on African Economies.”

President Weah made the remarks Monday, May 25, 2020, when he served as one of the panelists on a high level panel discussion on Africa’s post COVID-18 economic recovery.

The gathering was organized by the United Bank for Africa (UBA) to mark the celebration of Africa Day 2020.

President George Weah recounted steps taken by the Liberian Government to avoid a damaging impact of COVID-19 on the economy, including the introduction of the stimulus package.

In a related development, President George Weah said the future of sports after the Coronavirus could be undermined, if sufficient support is not given the private sector by African Governments.

President Weah said the lack of global funding to sports could further negatively impact all clubs, leagues and national teams, stressing the urgent need for African leaders and partners to support football and other games.

The Liberian Leader was speaking Monday, May 25, 2020, when delivered the keynote address during an online conference organized by the Africa Sports Venture Group and UNESCO in commemoration of Africa Day 2020.

President Weah urged his counterparts to look back and examine the challenges being caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

He thanked Africa Sports Venture Group and UNESCO for organizing the conference, which is under the theme: THE FUTURE OF SPORTS IN AFRICA POST-COVID-19.
