Senate Committee on Info and Broadcasting mediates…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Senate Committee on Information and Broadcasting has begun mediating on the ongoing stand-off between the Ministry of Information and the Press Union of Liberia (PUL).

On Monday, May 11, 2020, the Committee held separate meetings with authorities of the Information Ministry, the Leadership of the PUL, and also spoke to Police Inspector General, Patrick Sudue, via the social media platform, Zoom.

The Director of Press at the Liberian Senate, Jarlawa Tonpo, told ELBC that the Committee members will meet on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 to review statements from the parties for onward recommendation to Plenary of the Senate.

Mr. Tonpo said:” The senators are seriously concern about the ongoing rift between the Information Ministry and the PUL, and are working to bring a speedy end to the impasse.”

The Information Ministry and the Leadership of the PUL are involved in a disagreement, with members of the PUL refusing to accept the reprinted accreditation cards from the Ministry to journalists covering the COVID-19 pandemic.
