The United Nations (UN) has recommitted its support to Liberia in the country’s strive to sustain peace.

UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, says the United Nations is under obligation to ensure the stability of member states, with Liberia of no exception.

The UN Secretary-General was speaking during a bilateral meeting with Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dee-Maxwell Kemayah at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

A dispatch says Mr. Guterres praised the Government and people of Liberia for the peaceful and responsible handling of recent protests in the country.

According to the dispatch, Mr. Guterres and Ambassador Kemayah discussed critical matters affecting Liberia, including the economy, the recent protests in Liberia, and the 33^rd African Union Summit which took place in Addis Ababa Ethiopia from February 9-10, 2020.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dee-Maxwell Kemayah, has reaffirmed government’s quest to maintain the peace and stability of the country.

Ambassador Kemayah told the UN Secretary General that President George Weah remains committed to move Liberia forward amidst the daunting and inherited challenges confronting the country.

During the bilateral meeting between Ambassador Kemayah and UN Secretary General António Guterres, the Liberian Envoy highlighted the Government’s program with the International Monetary Fund to restore macro-economic stability and promote sustainable growth.

Ambassador Kemayah then emphasized that Liberia counts on the renewed support of the United Nations and all the national and international stakeholders to consolidate the peace and democracy of the country.

The Liberian Diplomat to the UN is meanwhile proposing the holding of an international investment forum for Liberia to generate resources for the country’s development priorities.
