Small Arms Commission Begins Registration of Single Barrel Hunting Guns Across Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA (Jarp Davies) -The Liberia National Commission on Small Arms, in collaboration with the Liberia National Police, has launched a program to register and license owners of single barrel guns in Liberia.

According to a release, the Civilian Arms Registration Exercise is intended to boost security and safety in the country and create a conducive atmosphere for citizens.

The release says the move also intends to contribute to government’s revenue generation drive as forty percent of the arms registration fees will be allotted to government while sixty percent will go to the Small Arms Commission’s operations.

Launching the program over the weekend in Grand Cape Mount County, Small Arms Commission Chairman, Maxwell Grigsby, encouraged owners and would-be owners of hunting guns to register and be licensed.

Meanwhile, national security sector representatives and others from ECOWAS, MRU, UNDP and the Hunters Union of Liberia have welcomed the Civilian Arms Registration Exercise, expressing optimism that the program will sustain the livelihood of the people.
