MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Joint Public Account Committee of the National Legislature has ordered a halt to further pavements to East International Company.

East International Company is the contracting company implementing the Roberts International Airport Road project.

The decision follows the Company’s failure to appear before the Joint Committee on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, to respond to the compliance report from the Auditor General of Liberia on the project.

The Committee’s Chair, Representative Clarence Gahr, said the Company’s request for ninety days to respond to the audit is a disservice to the Liberian people.

According to Representative Gahr, the Committee will not grant more than thirty days, noting that Liberians deserve to know how their money is being used.

He warned that if East International Company cannot respond to the Auditor General’s report within that period, there will be no additional payments or contract extension until the issues are addressed.

At the same time, the Co-Chair of the Joint Committee, Senator Amara Konneh, has described the National Legislative Hearing on the Auditor General’s report as due process and not a political exercise.

Senator Konneh said:” The purpose of the audit is to give those being audited the opportunity to defend themselves and provide clarification on findings in the report”.

He warned that the Committee will submit the Auditor General’s report to the Executive branch of the Liberian Government for action if individuals or entities involved fail to respond at the public hearing.

The Gbarpolu County Senator further disclosed that the National Legislature will follow up with the President on twelve audit reports recently submitted for action.

Senator Amara Konneh then urged present and past officials named in the reports to use the Joint Public Accounts Committee hearing to provide clarity, before the reports are sent to the Executive branch for action.
