Liberian Senate to Launch Compliant Review of Concession Companies in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate is expected to launch a major compliance review of several concession companies operating in Liberia.

Speaking in Plenary on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Capitol in Monrovia, Senate Protempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence said,” The move is aimed at identifying non-compliant companies and making recommendations to the Executive for actions”.

Senator Karnga-Lawrence named Bea Mountain Mining Company and Arcelor Mittal-Liberia, among others, as major concessions earmarked to undergo the Senate compliance review.

The Senate Protempore also constituted a special committee to verify employee listings, positions, and nationalities, to ensure that foreigners are not occupying positions that Liberians are qualified for.

She instructed the Ways, Means, Finance, and Public Accounts Committees to report on the financial status of additional commitments made by ArcelorMittal-Liberia to Nimba, Bong, and Grand Bassa Counties for road pavement and social contributions.

At the same time, the Chair of the Senate Committee on Public Works, Albert Chie, has highlighted progress being made in the Infrastructure Sector.

Senator Chie said,” Pavifort has started deployment along the St. Paul Bridge-Bo Waterside Road corridor, signaling the beginning of the road construction.

He also noted that feasibility studies along the Brewerville-Bopolu Road corridor have been completed and are expected to be presented to the Ministry of Public Works shortly.

The Grand Kru County Senator said, “Following the presentation of the studies’ report, the Brewerville-Bopolu Road is expected to be included in the PAVIFORT agreement”.

Senator Albert Chie made the statement on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in Plenary, following the return of the Liberian Senate from its first constituency break.
