MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Credit Union National Association (LCUNA) has officially launched a Five-Year Strategic Plan aimed at promoting growth, efficiency, and network for economic empowerment of members.
Speaking Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in Congo Town, during the launch of the Plan, the Guest Speaker, GSA Director General, Galakpai Kortimai, called for the inclusion of LCUNA into the national budget.
Kortima said,” Considering the critical role Credit Unions are playing in the economic development of the Country, there is a need for financial support to enhance their operations”.
He vowed to push the matter to the Office of the President and the National Legislature for timely consideration, noting that financial cooperatives form an integral part of the government’s ARREST Agenda.
For her part, the Registrar General of the Cooperative Development Agency (CDA), Madam Lorpu Kandakai, expressed excitement about the launch of the strategic plan, which will further cement their collaboration for boosting food security and economic empowerment of Liberians.
Madam Kandakai paid tribute to the Board and Management of LCUNA for the visionary endeavor of formulating a five-year plan with the objective of building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Credit Union Movement in Liberia.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of the Liberia Credit Union National Association, Yarkpazuo Gbusiwoi, described the launch of the Strategic Plan as a landmark achievement in the history of the Association.
He admonished stakeholders of the Association to take intentional actions for the full implementation of the Plan for the sustainability of the institution and livelihood improvement of its members.
Gbusiwoi lauded the consultant and Special Representative of ACCOSCA, Dr. B.B. Bingab, for his instrumental role in developing the plan with an estimated 3.2 million US Dollars in five years.
Also making remarks, the Board Chairperson of LCUNA, Yogie Sirleaf, pledged the Board’s unflinching support to the overall implementation of the five-year strategic plan.
Partners, including the National Federation of Cooperative Societies, Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority, and the Cooperative Development Agency, made a commitment to supporting LCUNA.
