MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government, through the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), says it remains firm in addressing the country’s energy supply with urgency and transparency.
According to a dispatch from the United States, the LEC Managing Director, Mohammed Sheriff, noted that the LEC is fully aware of the current electricity challenges being experienced across the country.
Sheriff, however, noted that immediate action is being taken to stabilize the electricity supply while building a modern, resilient, and self-sufficient energy system in the coming years.
He named the fast-tracking of the 100-megawatt Heavy Oil solution to ease near-term pressures, the 300-megawatt Buchanan Gas Project, and the St. Paul and St. John Hydropower Projects.
Sherif said,” The move represents a lasting transformation of Liberia’s Power Sector to achieve the national 700-megawatt capacity target”.
Meanwhile, the LEC Managing Director wants the public to remain confident and supportive, exercising patience as these critical interventions are being implemented.
