MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has assured citizens that it is in full control of the Liberia-Guinea border situation along the Markona River in Foya District, Lofa County.
Speaking at a special Information Ministry Press Briefing on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, in Monrovia, the Chair of the Joint Security, Justice Minister Oswald Tweh, urged Liberians to exercise restraint.
Cllr Tweh said the government is addressing the matter through diplomatic channels.
The Justice Minister stressed that citizens should not spread false and unverified information about the situation, stressing that such actions have the potential to create panic.
The Chairman of the Joint Security further disclosed that AI-generated content and fake news designed to mislead the public have flooded social media, urging citizens to rely only on official sources for accurate information.
The Government of Liberia has since reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability across the country.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah has emphasized the need for content creators and social media influencers to stop the spread of misinformation about the situation at the border between Liberia and Guinea.
Minister Piah called on citizens to keep politics away from the matter and behave responsibly.
The information minister then expressed disappointment in some political leaders bent on politicizing the situation.
