Pres. Boakai Commissions New Senior Secondary School in Margibi County

KAKATA, MARGIBI COUNTY, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has commissioned a new senior secondary school in Margibi County, describing it as a major step toward strengthening education and national development.

The project was implemented by the Ministry of Education, with support from the World Bank, under the Improving Results in Secondary Education (IRISE) Project.

President Boakai emphasized that investments in education, infrastructure, and youth development are critical to building a stronger and more self-reliant Liberia.

He urged citizens to shift away from a “what we will eat” mentality and instead focus on using national resources to drive sustainable development.

The Liberian leader called on communities, educators, and students to take ownership of the new facility and ensure it delivers quality education and produces future leaders.

President Boakai reaffirmed his government’s commitment to expanding development beyond Monrovia and improving learning conditions for students across the country.

Earlier, Education Minister, Dr. Jarso Jallah, described the commissioning of the Kakata Senior Secondary Model School as a major step toward improving access to quality education in Liberia.

The school, constructed by the Ministry of Education with support from the World Bank, is designed to accommodate up to one thousand students and features modern classrooms, science laboratories, an ICT lab, and sports facilities.

Dr. Jallah said,” The facility represents a shift from simply expanding infrastructure to improving how schools function, and the model school is expected to set a new standard for accountability, teaching quality, and effective learning”.

She noted that the project had previously stalled due to contractor challenges, but was completed after the ministry took decisive action to restructure and closely monitor its implementation.

The education minister stressed that the school will be continuously monitored to ensure its facilities are used properly and that it delivers consistent, high-quality instruction.

Dr. Jallah urged teachers, students, and the community to take ownership of the institution, describing it as a long-term investment in Liberia’s future and a foundation for developing the next generation of leaders.
