MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Several women’s rights organizations in Liberia are demanding stringent measures to end Gender-Based Violence (GBV) across the country.
They include the Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL), We are Protected Campaigners, and Community Health Care Initiative, among others.
On Monday, March 16, 2026, the organizations launched a national campaign at the Headquarters of the Liberia National Police (LNP), calling for immediate intervention in addressing GBV.
The organizers said the campaign is in solidarity with all women who have survived GBV, as well as those who have been victimized by all kinds of violence for years.
Reading their petition statement, Nusone Perkins reminded the Liberian Government of the urgency of addressing issues affecting women and girls, especially GBV.
In the statement, the organizations also called for a speedy and impartial investigation into the sudden death of Toni Khumalo-Jackson, the wife of Liberian Economist Samuel Jackson.
Receiving the group’s petition, the Police Inspector General, Col. Gregory Coleman, recommitted the government to ensuring that the women’s concerns are addressed speedily.
Col. Coleman said,” GBV issues have been elevated from the National Security Council level to a state security priority”.
The Police Inspector General highlighted that addressing GBV is captured in the new national security plan launched by the government recently.
He outlined several projects the government is working on to ensure GBV cases are handled adequately.
Col. Gregory Coleman said,” The ongoing investigation into the death of Toni Khumalo-Jackson will be free, fair, impartial, and transparent”.
