MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A man identified as Mohammed Sheriff was charged and forwarded to court on Thursday, March 5, 2026, by the Liberian National Police on allegations of paramilitary activities.
Defendant Sheriff, according to the police, was brought to its headquarters in connection with the February 13, 2026, social media post where members of the organization, National Fula Security Services, were seen wearing mixed color unidentified security attire gathered at the Fish Market Mosque.
The photos, which were posted, raised national security concerns that led to the Ministry of Justice mandating the police to conduct a full-scale investigation into the matter.
Having thoroughly investigated the paramilitary activities exhibited by the National Fula Community Security Service, it was established that the group is an illegal group that is not registered under the Liberian Government, but is run by defendant Mohammed Sheriff, with no definite organizational structure.
It was also established that they have been unlawfully operating since 2011 to provide security protection for mosques in Liberia during the Holy Month of Ramadan, or another Islamic prayer period.
The police investigation unearthed that defendant Sheriff could not account for forty-five of his personnel through documentation to enable the police investigation team authenticate the actual identities.
Background investigations confirmed that the Imam of Bobom Market Caldwell Mosque was seen in the video speaking to members of the National Fula Community Security Service during the burial ceremony at the Fish Market.
Meanwhile, defendant Mohammed Sheriff has been bailed out pending court trial.
