MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The newly inducted Chairman of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia (NCSCL), Lawrance Yealue, has pledged to strengthen the Council’s presence across the country.
Yealue also envisions the construction of a modern office to serve as a hub for Civil Society Organization (CSO) activities, restore hope, and enhance transparency and communication nationwide.
Speaking at the induction ceremony on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Monrovia City Hall in Sinkor, Yealue said,” Building the capacity of member organizations is key to ensuring meaningful and impactful advocacy”.
Yealue also commended his predecessor, Loretta Pope-Kai, for her leadership and dedication in guiding the Council.
He also pointed out Madam Pope-Kai’s commitment to fostering unity and advocacy, noting that her contributions laid a strong foundation for the new leadership.
Meanwhile, renowned Human Rights Lawyer, Tiawon Gongloe, urged the leadership of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia to strengthen governance and place the welfare of citizens at the forefront.
At the induction ceremony, the Liberian human rights lawyer cautioned that corruption drains resources, weakens services, and diminishes hope, emphasizing that public office is meant for service, not personal gain.
He stressed that education drives national development and called on civil society, parents, and teachers to challenge excessive school fees and graduation costs that limit access to learning.
He pointed to nations like Botswana and Rwanda, where investing in education has empowered young people, and highlighted that many Liberian students are forced abroad due to cost and quality concerns.
The Liberian human rights lawyer concluded that civil society must actively hold leaders accountable to ensure a fair, inclusive, and sustainable future for Liberia.
