MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Koung, has called for decisive actions by the Liberian Senate to advance tourism development in Liberia.
Vice President Koung urged members of the Liberian Senate to provide more deliberate and sustained support for tourism development through adequate budgetary allocations.
He emphasized that meaningful progress in tourism development will require planning, decisive legislative action, and a long-term financial commitment by the Government of Liberia.
The Vice President made the remarks during Thursday, February 26, 2026, Session, when officials of the Liberia Tourism Authority and Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti appeared to provide updates on ongoing strategic plans to revitalize and expand Liberia’s tourism industry.
The Vice President underscored the importance of leveraging Liberia’s existing national assets to stimulate growth in the sector.
Meanwhile, Vice President Koung has proposed that the government explore public-private partnerships as a practical pathway to rehabilitating these facilities.
The release further said that the Vice President noted that restoring the facilities to international standards would require substantial capital investment, potentially exceeding one hundred million US Dollars.
The Vice President also encouraged tourism officials to diversify tourism offerings, including the development of water-based tourism such as recreational boat rides, which are popular attractions in many countries.
He urged Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti to review and, where necessary, reform visa policies to make entry into Liberia more accessible.
The Vice President noted that simplifying visa processes would significantly enhance Liberia’s attractiveness as a destination for international tourists and business travelers.
