MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Health has expressed deep concern over the escalating labor dispute and impending strike action by health workers at the Phebe Hospital in Bong County.
On Saturday, February 21, 2026, a video footage circulated on social media in which some aggrieved workers of the hospital threatened to stage a go-slow action for several reasons.
In a statement issued over the weekend, the Ministry of Health warned that any work stoppage would severely jeopardize access to essential medical services to residents of Bong County and surrounding communities.
The ministry clarified that, while it provides substantial support to the facility, the administration and operational oversight rest primarily with its governing partners, the Methodist, Episcopal, and Lutheran Churches.
In the statement, the Ministry called on the Church’s leadership, in collaboration with the hospital’s Board of Directors, to intervene immediately.
It urged all parties to engage in constructive dialogue aimed at resolving the grievances amicably and preventing any disruption in routine and emergency health services.
Meanwhile, the ministry has deployed a team of senior officials to the Phebe Hospital to assess the current state of affairs and implement short-term measures that will ensure the continuity of healthcare.
The ministry said the team will also work alongside the governing partners and the Board to facilitate a sustainable and long-term resolution to the ongoing labor issues.
The ministry acknowledged the legitimacy of concerns of the aggrieved health workers and affirmed the importance of addressing them through proper channels.
It highlighted the continued investment in the sector, including significant government subsidies allocated to Phebe Hospital to support its operations and ensure that remain functional for community services.
