MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Civil Society Human Rights Platform of Liberia is intensifying public awareness, following the country’s abolition of the death penalty.
Speaking at a workshop on the abolition of the death penalty in Monrovia, Civil Society Human Rights Head, Adama Dempster, said,” The campaign goes beyond advocacy and reflects Liberia’s legal obligations under international law”.
Dempster emphasized that no punishment under Liberian law should constitute death, stressing that abolition strengthens Liberia’s global human rights standing.
He added that civil society plans to engage citizens further, raising awareness and ensuring the discussion includes all sides
He noted that groups are working with the Ministry of Justice, alongside international partners, including the UK government and the United Nations, to ensure full implementation of the reform.
Participants, including magistrates, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and advocates, described the forum as a valuable opportunity to discuss the reform from different perspectives, noting that each stakeholder brings a unique role and viewpoint within the justice system.
