Pres. Boakai Describes Education as Bedrock of the Nation…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has described the EXCEL project as cardinal to boosting Liberia’s Education System.

Speaking on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the Capitol, during his 3rd Annual Message, President Boakai emphasized the transformative strides Liberia has made in recent years.

He said education is the bedrock of the nation’s progress, highlighting partners’ support and the dedication of the people, and ensuring that every Liberian child has access to quality learning.

The President noted that reforms have restored dignity to teachers, expanded digital access to remote villages, and built a stronger foundation for future leaders.

According to him, the government, in collaboration with the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education, launched the 2024 unified data-driven reform to guarantee access to quality learning for all children.

Over two-thousand qualified volunteer teachers have been hired across the country, and more than one-hundred and sixty-six schools now feature fully equipped computer labs, bringing technology to the classroom.

Meanwhile, President Joseph Boakai has reaffirmed the government’s pledge to provide equitable educational opportunities, emphasizing that investments in education are investments in Liberia’s future.

He said ensuring access to quality education for all children, regardless of their background or location, remains a top priority of his administration.

The President highlighted equitable education as essential for reducing disparities and promoting social cohesion across the country.

He emphasized that the government is committed to implementing policies that support marginalized and vulnerable groups, including girls’ children with disabilities and those in rural areas.

President Boakai stressed the importance of partnerships and community involvement in achieving these goals.

In another development, President Boakai emphasized the importance of literacy and numeracy, especially among young learners in grades one to three.

He mentioned that the National Digital Learning Platform now reaches remote communities with multimedia lessons, including sign language support, to ensure inclusivity for all students. The Liberian Leader further commended efforts to improve school infrastructure through new construction and renovations, including the building of mortar schools in Bong, Margibi, and Nimba counties.

He maintained that over 22,000 STEM kits have been distributed to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.

The President explained that the government’s commitment extends beyond infrastructure, with the National School Feeding Program now supporting over 239,000 students.

He also highlighted that transparent governance is reflected in the annual school census covering more than 6,300 schools, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.
