BOMI COUNTY, LIBERIA-The National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA), over the weekend, expanded its food aid distribution to Grand Cape Mount County, benefitting several vulnerable groups and institutions in that part of the country.
The benefiting institutions include the St. Timothy Government Hospital, the Cape Mount Central Prison, and the Ministry of Gender, Save Children Home.
Others include the Group of 77, the Vonzula Orphanage, and the National Union Organisation of Disabled.
The food items are 25Kg bags of rice and 5-litre cartons of oil.
The Deputy Director General for Administration at the NFAA, Bob Kartoe, in his overview, said,” The institution has been dormant over the years, but is now making a significant impact in the lives of Liberians under this administration”.
Deputy Director Kartoe said the Food aid project will extend to eight of Liberia’s fifteen Counties with support from partners.
Meanwhile the Deputy Director General for operations Elton Dickson disclosed that the project is a fifty thousand United States Dollars funded initiative.
Deputy Director Dixon appealed for continuous support to the NFAA from well-meaning Liberians and philanthropists, to enable the entity to meet the basic food needs of citizens, especially the vulnerable population.
At the same time, Robertsport City Mayor of Grand Cape Mount, Thomas Massaquoi, expressed deep gratitude to the NFAA for the gesture and pledged the county administration’s support to the entity.
Mayor Massaquoi described the gesture as timely and will be used for the right purpose.
In separate remarks, the heads of the benefitting groups appreciated the national Food Assistance program for including them among several vulnerable groups to benefit from the entity’s food aid project.
However, the Medical Director at the St Timothy Government Hospital, Dr Samsom Woulu, appealed to the NFAA to continue the food distribution process on a monthly or quarterly basis to enable the hospital to provide regular feeding for patients.
Dr Woulu said,” Some patients are admitted and left in the hospital with no relative support, and that food provided will enable them to take their medication, because food plays a crucial role in their recovery process.
The NFAA, as part of the food aid project, also made a similar donation to four facilities in Bomi County on December 11, 2025.
The facilities include the Tubmanburg Central Prison, Tubmanburg Hospital, Sadaya Old Folks and Vulnerable Citizens Home, and Tames Memorial Children Welfare Centre.
Deputy Director General at the NFAA, Elton Dickson, emphasised that the government of Liberia is committed to meeting the needs of its people, especially the vulnerable population, during the festive season.
The NFAA urged the beneficiaries to use the food items for their intended purpose and assured them of the agency’s continuous support.
Meanwhile, the heads of the benefitting institutions thanked the NFAA and partners for the gesture and promised to use the items for the intended purpose.
The Bomi County Assistant Superintendent for Fiscal Affairs, Varney Dorley, lauded the NFAA for capturing Bomi under the food aid project.
Assistant Superintendent Dorley has, however, urged the NFAA for continuous support to Bomi County.
At the same time, the Executive Director of the Sadaya Old Folks and Vulnerable Citizens Home, Sam Cole, is appealing to the government for material support to the old folks to engage in agricultural activities.
Mr Cole said that with such support, they can be able to feed themselves at the same time, buttressing government efforts in promoting agriculture.
The Food distribution by the National Food Assistance Agency is expected to continue in other targeted counties soon.
