MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Senator of Montserrado County, Darius Dillon, has defended the ongoing budget hearing at the Senate.
Senate Dillon said,” The process is in no way a violation of the Constitution”.
The comment by the Montserrado County Senator is in reaction to Nimba County Representative, Musa Bility, who claimed that the Senate’s budget hearing was unconstitutional and procedurally improper.
In an interview on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Senator Darius Dillon stated that the House of Representatives does not have exclusive authority over the budget.
Senator Dillon maintained that the constitutional provision that all financial instruments should originate from the House does not stop the Senate from conducting a budget hearing.
At the same time, the Liberian Senate has launched an investigation into an alleged unexplained deduction in the monthly salaries of Commissioners, Paramount and Clan Chiefs in River Gee County.
It followed a communication from River Gee County Senator, Jonathan Sogbie, on Tuesday.
In his communication, Senator Sogbie said,” Local leaders in the county are raising concerns over the situation”.
The Rivergee County Senator noted that it is being alleged that said deduction was due to new appointments in local government.
Meanwhile, the Senate has mandated its Joint Committee on Internal Affairs and Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget to investigate the allegation and report within two weeks.
