Police Inspector Coleman Admits to Capacity Gap in Liberia Nat’l Police

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Police Inspector Col. Gregory Coleman has admitted to a capacity gap within the Liberia National Police.

The capacity gap, according to Col. Coleman, is undermining the professional integrity of the police force.

He blamed the situation on limited training and capacity-building opportunities for officers since the departure of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) in late 2016.

Inspector General Coleman wants the National Legislature to increase the LNP’s current budget by an additional twelve million USD to address critical human resource gaps in the police.

Col. Coleman was speaking on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, when he appeared before the Plenary of the House of Representatives.

According to the Police Inspector General, the proposed twelve million USD would be used to recruit, train, and deploy new officers across the country.
