MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched an appeal to the National Disaster Management Agency and partners to provide food and safe drinking water to residents affected by the ongoing human-elephant conflict in Gola Konneh District, Grand Cape Mount County.
According to the EPA, several towns and villages, including Varguaye, Flomo Village, Mafala Town, and James Momoh Town, among others, have been severely impacted by the roaming elephant.
In a release, the Agency warned that the situation has reached a life-threatening point as families are being displaced and left without basic needs.
Reports from the District described tragic deaths, panic, and the destruction of crops by elephants, particularly in Varguaye, a community of about three thousand inhabitants.
The attacks have forced many families to abandon farming activities, while schools in some areas have closed due to safety concerns.
Meanwhile, the EPA said that without urgent assistance, affected communities could face worsening food shortages and health risks.
