MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Association of Liberian Construction Contractors (ALCC) has emphasized the importance of building the capacity of young Liberians in the construction industry.
The Chairman of the Board of ALCC, Christopher Bull, said,” The lack of capacity-building for young Liberians in the industry has contributed immensely to limiting the growth of Liberia’s Construction Sector.
Bull noted that building the capacity of the construction industry labor force will boost national development and reduce the government’s reliance on foreign construction contractors for nation-building.
He made the statement recently, following a meeting between the Board and Management of the ALCC and the Administration of the Gateway Vocational Training Center (GVCT) in Bensonville City, Rural Montserrado County.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, GVCT Manager Abraham Wowah revealed that the center is bridging the skills gap of people in the Construction Sector, and enhancing employment in the sector.
Wowah disclosed that the GVCT, led and owned by the association of three private sectors, is offering plumbing and pipefitting, road construction and maintenance, and carpentry, among others.
The GVCT boss then highlighted that the competency-based education and training (CBET) methodology of modern teaching and training has made the GVCT exceptional in empowering Liberian youth to respond to economic growth opportunities by increasing their employability potentials.
