MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has signed a Public-Private Partnership Power Purchase Agreement with an Ivorian Company, Space Grade Transformers Planer.
The Agreement aims to develop and deploy a 40-Megawatt Thermal Power plant.
Under the partnership, Space Grade Transformers Planer will fully finance, develop, and deploy the thermal power plant, which will be situated at the LEC Thermal Plant site in Point Four on Bushrod Island.
The facility is expected to be completed and fully operational in seven months.
Meanwhile, technical mobilization has already begun, including detailed planning, site preparation, logistics coordination, and preliminary works.
In another development, the LEC Managing Director, Mohammed Sheriff, is currently in Washington, D. C., the United States of America, attending the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meeting.
As part of his mission, Sheriff is expected to sign a separate agreement with Release Utilities Africa Holding for the construction of a 23.75-Mega Peak Solar Plan with a 10-Megawatt-hour battery storage capacity.
The proposed solar facility will be constructed near the LEC Schieffelin sub-station along the Roberts International Airport Corridor.
Once signed, the project will be executed within sixty-four weeks, and upon completion, will inject clean, renewable energy into the national grid.
It is expected to significantly reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuels and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
