MONROVIA, LIBERIA-ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, Josephine Nkrumah, has called on journalists across the country to remain steadfast in upholding the principles of ethical journalism.
Madam Nkrumah said,” Truth in storytelling is vital for the survival of Liberia’s democracy and the region’s peace”.
She said in an era where misinformation and disinformation easily circulate, journalists’ responsibility is to provide accurate, balanced, and fair reports that strengthen public trust.
The ECOWAS Ambassador also reminded the media that ECOWAS will continue to support press freedom and good governance, to protect the democratic space.
She emphasized training, fact-checking, and professional solidarity as key ways to safeguard the credibility of the media.
Madam Nkrumah also encouraged young journalists to see their profession as a calling, to serve the nation rather than a tool for personal gain.
She spoke at the celebration of the 61st Anniversary of the Press Union of Liberia in Sinkor.
At the Same time, the President of the Press Union of Liberia, Julius Kanubah, has described the 61st Anniversary of the Press Union of Liberia as a celebration of resilience and a turning point for the country’s media community.
Kanubah said,” The 61st Anniversary not only honours the historic role of the Union in promoting press freedom, but also serves as a major push to mobilize resources for the construction of the PUL Headquarters”.
He said this year’s anniversary is not only about remembrance, but about building a future for Liberian journalism.
The PUL president spoke at the celebration of the 61st Anniversary of the Press Union of Liberia in Sinkor, Monrovia.
The program was held under the theme:” Commemorating Our Past, Constructing Our Future”.
