MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia has formally joined other countries to sign the Declaration on the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel, on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration, Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, represented Liberia at the signing ceremony on Monday, September 22.

The Ministry said the Declaration adds to the numerous international instruments on protecting aid workers in times of conflict.

It aims to make humanitarian workers safer and more respected under international law, especially local and national staff who often face the greatest danger during conflicts.

The Declaration was championed by a Ministerial Group led by Australia, Jordan, Switzerland, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, the United Kingdom, Japan, Brazil, and Colombia.
