MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti has committed Liberia to advancing Africa’s interests at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Minister Nyanti assured AU Member States that Liberia will work closely with African members of the UN Security Council to advance the interests of Africa, during Liberia’s tenure on the Council.
Speaking during a meeting of the A3-plus Countries recently, Minister Nyanti said,” Liberia will specifically advance an agenda that reforms UN Peacekeeping, and explores means of addressing the climate crisis and its link to natural resources and conflict”.
The A3-plus group includes African countries that are non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, as well as Guyana, which has historical ties of solidarity with the African continent.
A Foreign Ministry statement said,” The A3-plus meeting is an assembly of African and Caribbean members of the Security Council, which provides a mechanism for consultation and coordination on issues affecting Africa and the Caribbean”.
The Liberian Foreign Minister also called on African countries to consult more frequently to ensure that Africa’s voice is not only heard, but its interests are pursued in international organizations.
