Millennium Challenge Corporation Expected to Arrive in Liberia Today

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is expected to arrive in Liberia today, Monday, September 22, to assess the country’s preparedness for reaffirmation of eligibility for a potential second MCC Compact.

The team is expected to be led by MCC Managing Director for Africa, Carrie Manahan, and accompanied by senior experts, including MCC Director of Finance and Trade, Deidre Fair, Senior Economists Steve Anderson, Peter Glick, and Sophia Marcus, among others.

According to a release, during the visit, the MCC Delegation will engage with institutions of the Liberian Government and stakeholders, including the Ministries of Finance, Mines and Energy, Commerce and Industry, Foreign Affairs, National Investment Commission, Central Bank of Liberia, Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services, and the Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.

The release said the MCC Delegation will also meet with the Liberia Revenue Authority, Liberia Special Economic Zone Authority, Liberia Chamber of Commerce, and a host of non-governmental stakeholders, to widen discussion on Liberia’s eligibility for a potential second MCC Compact.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance says these engagements will support the MCC’s Constraints Analysis, a critical diagnostic process used to identify the most significant barriers to inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Liberia, and to determine the sectors most aligned with the MCC’s investment priorities.
