Two Nigerians Involve in Piracy Case Appeals Might Head for Plea-Bargaining…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The first-ever piracy case involving two Nigerian nationals, Michael Oputa and Titus Ezenna, who hijacked a ship on high seas, appeals seem to be heading for a plea-bargaining deal before Criminal Court ‘D’ Resident Judge, Mameita Jabateh-Sirleaf.

This followed Defense Lawyer, Cllr. Bestman Juah’s submission to the Court, saying that with the consent of his clients, they are seeking to negotiate a settlement with the state consistent with Chapter 16, Sections 4 and 5 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.

Defense Lawyer Cllr. Juah’s account means that his clients want to confess to committing the crimes indicted by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County, based on the weight of State Lawyers’ pieces of evidence.

Prosecuting Lawyers, led by Cllr. Jonah Kerkulah interposed no objection to the defense lawyer’s request for a plea bargain.
