Mines and Energy Ministry Conducts Risk Assessment Survey across Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Mines and Energy Ministry has begun conducting a risk assessment survey across the Country.

The exercise is centered on illicit financial flows, money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation of financing in the Artisanal and Small-scale Mining sub-sector.

According to a release, the assessment kicked off on Tuesday in the Tappita Mining District, Nimba County, and will later move over to small-scale mining communities in Grand Gedeh County.

The release said the exercise intends to feed into an informed decision essential to efforts by the government to combat illegal financial transactions in small-scale mining.

Respondents participating in the survey are providing information through questionnaires, concerning a series of financial transactions and security-related issues they have noticed.

The Respondents include mineral brokers, dealers, traders, local government authorities, miners, and national security agencies, among others.
