MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Civil Law Court is expected to entertain legal argument this Monday, August 4, in a petition to evict the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) from its headquarters in Congo Town.
It follows the Civil Law Court’s ruling on July 31, rejecting CDC’s request to dismiss the late Martha Stubblefield’s Property petition for Summary Proceedings to the court for the Recovery of the Real Property.
The Court’s pending hearing, according to our Judicial Reporter, was conducted through a notice of assignments to the petitioner and respondent lawyers, consistent with the law.
The CDC leadership has rejected their exit from the late Martha Stubblefield’s property, which hosts their party headquarters in Congo Town, through an application to the Court to dismiss a petition for Summary Proceedings to recover the Real Property.
Judge George Smith ruled that the petitioners’ request for Summary Proceedings to the Recovery of Real Property is a separate action contrary to the CDC lawyers’ account that their Specific Performance action is similar to the petitioners’ application to the Court.
At the same time, Criminal Court ‘A’ is reportedly considering the arrest of LINSU President, James Washington, and his Secretary General, Dariou Toweh, in connection with four UL students’ refusal to appear in Court for criminal prosecution.
The students in question are Stephen Brown, Momo Buttel, Christian Bryant, and Obadiah Jallah, all from the Student Unification Party at the University of Liberia.
Judge Roosevelt Willie told our Judicial Reporter that the Court will be forced to apprehend the two student leaders due to their refusal to surrender the four UL students to the court since they served sureties for them when they are needed by the Court.
Our Judicial Reporter said Judge Willie believes that the arrest and incarceration of LINSU President, James Washington, and his Secretary General, Dariou Toweh, will compel the four UL Students to show up from their hiding places.
The four UL students have since been indicted by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County in connection with the March 18, 2025, incident at the Liberia Football Association, but have yet to be served with their sealed indictment.
