Congress for Democratic Change Lawyers Suffer Another Setback…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Lawyers representing the Congress for Democratic Change have suffered yet another setback at the Civil Law Court in connection with their motion to prevent their eviction from the late Martha Stubblefield’s Property.

CDC leadership has since rejected its exit from the late Martha Stubblefield property, hosting their party headquarters in Congo Town, through an application to the Court, to dismiss a petition for Summary Proceedings to Recover Real Property.

But Judge George Smith on Thursday, July 31, 2025, ruled that the petitioner’s request to recover Real Property is a separate action contrary to CDC’s lawyers’ account that their specific action is similar to the petitioner’s application to the Court.

Judge Smith’s July 31st decision ruled that the matter for full litigation will be determined by the Court in a couple of days.

But CDC lawyers took exception to the Court’s decision, saying they will take advantage of the law controlling with the intent to overturn Judge Smith’s ruling.

At the same time, the Court is expected to rule on CDC’s petition for Specific Performance, which claimed an existing contract between them and the administrators of the late Martha Stubblefield Property hosting their party headquarters in Congo Town.

Ahead of the Court’s decision, Cllr. Johnny Momoh said,” There is no sale agreement between them, and as such, the matter should be dismissed to allow CDC to vacate and surrender the property consistent with the law”.
