MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Board of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is expected to reaffirm Liberia’s eligibility for a compact early next week.
In December 2024, the MCC announced Liberia’s eligibility for a compact, but the process was paused due to a presidential transition in the United States.
But, addressing a news conference on Monday, July 28, 2025, Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Ngafuan said, “The MCC Board has informed the government that at its upcoming board meeting Liberia’s eligibility may be reaffirmed for a compact.”
Minister Ngafuan said, “When Liberia’s eligibility is reaffirmed by the MCC Board, the government would proceed with setting up the MCC Country Office, recruit the relevant staff, and begin developing the compact.”
The finance minister stated that, given President Boakai’s recent engagements with the leadership of the MCC in the U.S, he is optimistic that Liberia will be allowed to proceed with the program.
