FAO Director Gen. Says Newly Inaugurated Situation Room in Italy Will Serve as Conscience-Driven Hub

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Director General, QU Dongyu, says the newly inaugurated Liberia Situation Room in Italy is a cutting-edge facility designed to serve as a science-driven decision hub.

According to Mr. Dongyu, the facility, designed with advanced functionality, will enable collaborative analysis and strategic planning to increase resilience and anticipatory action, thereby improving food production in Liberia.

The FAO Director-General said,” The hub will also finance the Shock-Driven Food Crises initiative under the Food and Agriculture Organization financial mechanism, to shift responses to food crises from reactive to proactive.”

He maintained that the Situation Room will monitor 12 critical risks, offering up-to-date insights at both national and sub-regional levels, while allowing users to access, visualize, and interpret real-time data on food security risks.

The Food and Agriculture Organization Director-General spoke recently in Rome, Italy, on the margins of the 44th Session of the FAO Ministerial Conference, when he inaugurated two new technical rooms at the Organization’s Headquarters in Rome.

The two state-of-the-art facilities that were inaugurated by the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization include the Liberia Situation Room and the Netherlands Acceleration Zone, setting the stage to enhance the Organization’s efficiency and effectiveness in delivering its mandate.

“The Liberia Situation Room combines modern design with advanced functionality, enabling collaborative analysis and strategic planning to increase resilience and anticipatory action,” said the Director-General.

Mr. Dongyu, at the same time, disclosed that the Liberia Situation Room will generate risk profiles tailored for re-insurance companies, thereby supporting the development of anticipatory insurance mechanisms in high-vulnerability contexts.

“The Liberia Situation Room embodies FAO’s commitment to harnessing technology and partnerships to protect the most vulnerable populations,” Qu said.

The Director-General expressed his deep appreciation to the Government of Liberia and the Minister for Agriculture of Liberia, Alexandar Nuetah, who participated in the Room’s inauguration for the generous contribution towards establishing this new facility.
