MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin has hailed the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) for bringing its torch closer to the people at the Local Government level.
He made the commendation during the official launch of the training of officials of Local Government on Tuesday.
Minister Nyumalin expressed confidence that the social accountability project titled: “Empowering citizens and Communities to Foster Social Accountability and Transparency in Governance and Public Service Delivery”, will make a more meaningful impact when Local Government, civil society, and communities are actively involved.
In the statement delivered on his behalf by Assistant Internal Affairs Minister for Research and Development Planning, Emmanuel Whenyou, Minister Nyumalin expressed optimism that the project will educate and raise awareness surrounding the fight against corruption and promote integrity and accountability in Local Government.
He hailed the UNDP for their support, pledging to unite efforts with stakeholders for the betterment of local communities.
The Internal Affairs Minister encouraged actors in local governance to see themselves as custodians of public trust and stewards of the community’s future, stressing that anti-corruption in government is not a mere abstract concept, but a fundamental pillar upon which the very fabric of society rests.
