First Lady Kartumu Boakai Calls for Holistic Fight against Mental Illness in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-First Lady Kartumu Boakai has called for a holistic fight against mental illness in Liberia.

Madam Boakai noted that mental health must be approached with the same vigor and commitment as any other public healthcare challenge.

The Liberian First Lady said:” There is a need to de-traumatize mental health issues, make mental healthcare accessible to all Liberians, and ensure that it is integrated into the broader health and social policy.

Madam Boakai said,” I am confident that with the continuous support of the Carter Center and the dedication of all stakeholders, mental healthcare can be transformed.”

The First Lady made the statement at the Carter Center Mental Health Program Annual Review Meeting on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, through a proxy, Adam Kyne.
