Gov. of Liberia Reacts to Former Vice Pres. Howard-Taylor’s Benefits Claims

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has reacted to retirement benefits claims made by former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor.

Liberia’s Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah said:” The government is ready to address the matter, but encouraged the former Vice President to make a formal claim to the government to find a solution.”

Minister Piah said there are criteria for pensioners under the February 2017 arrangement, which clearly outlines retirees’ eligibility and responsibilities.

Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah made the statement on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, during the MICAT Press Briefing in Monrovia.

At the same time, Minister Piah says the National Port Authority (NPA) is making significant strides to contribute to the national revenue envelope of Liberia.

The MICAT Boss said,” The Management of the NPA has begun major reforms to ensure that the port remains the highest contributor to the national budget.”

He said currently, the NPA is initiating the renovation of the Port of Greenville and employees’ capacity development programs in Sinoe County.

The information minister disclosed that the Management of the NPA has also renovated key infrastructure at the port to meet international standards.

Meanwhile, Minister Jerolinmek Piah is urging the public not to give credence to negative criticism from opposition figures that tend to undermine the ongoing efforts of the National Port Authority.
