MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Regional Director for West Africa at the Africa Center for Disease Control (CDC), Dr. Kokou Alinon, wants stakeholders in the Health Sector to work collaboratively for the successful implementation of the Event-Based Surveillance System (EBS).

According to Dr. Alinon, the implementation of the EBS Guideline will serve as a major boost to strengthening the country’s surveillance system.

The instrument will enhance early detection and rapid response to emerging health threats in the country.

He lauded the NPHIL and the Ministry of Health for their preparedness and response efforts in curtailing diseases in the country, but noted that more needs to be done.

The Africa CDC regional Director also pledged the Africa CDC’s commitment to improving the country’s Public Health Sector.

He spoke during the official launch of the EBS Technical Guideline in Monrovia on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, NPHIL, Dr. Dougbeh Nyan, says the improvement of the Public Health Sector needs a holistic approach.

Nyan noted that it is about time to prioritize resources in the country to support the Public Health System and other sectors of the country.

He says with the necessary support, Liberia will get on par with other countries in the region.

He further lauded the Africa CDC for the enormous support to Liberia’s Health Sector over the years.
