MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The United Nations Country Team in Liberia has reaffirmed its commitment to assisting Liberia in achieving the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.

On Tuesday, March 26, 2025, the team led by UN Resident Coordinator, Christine Umutoni, met with Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti and emphasized the importance of continued support for Liberia’s peacebuilding efforts.

Madam Umutoni made specific reference to strengthening national institutions, enhancing human rights protection, and fostering social inclusion.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the meeting, held quarterly, is part of Minister Nyanti’s ongoing efforts to strategically engage with development partners in the Country.

The meeting provided an opportunity for Madam Umutoni and her colleagues to highlight the collaborative efforts between the UN and the Liberian Government in promoting sustainable development, peace, and human rights, among others.

Madam Umutoni stressed that the UN is aware of the challenges posed by the recent aid cut by the United States Government and its impact on implementing the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, despite these challenges.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti has recognized significant progress made by Liberia in its recovery and development journey, but noted that challenges remain, especially in areas such as unemployment, healthcare, and infrastructure, among others.

The Liberian Foreign Minister also called for increased international support, particularly in capacity building, job creation, and sustainable economic development.

UN-Liberia collaboration in addressing emerging challenges such as the economic impact of climate change, food security, and access to education and healthcare.

Minister Nyanti highlighted the need for the UN to remain flexible and responsive to Liberia’s evolving needs, particularly in the face of global challenges like health crises and economic downturns.

Foreign Minister Nyanti further called for a stronger UN presence in Liberia’s rural areas, where much of the country’s population resides.

The Dean of the Cabinet also advocated for a greater focus on inclusive development programs that would benefit marginalized and underserved communities.
