Asst. Culture Affairs Minister at Internal Affairs Ministry of Liberia Angers over Traditional Leaders’ Cultural Practices

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Assistant Minister for Culture Affairs at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, William Jallah, has expressed anger over traditional leaders’ discharge of cultural activities in Liberia.

Minister Jallah noted that some traditional leaders are harassing, intimidating, and forcibly adopting citizens into the Sande and Poro Societies, especially in Grand Bassa County.

Speaking at the opening of a three-day Peace and Reconciliation Dialogue in Buchanan, recently, Minister Jallah said:” This is posing serious embarrassment to Liberia’s development partners.”

He, however, reaffirmed his institution’s commitment to work with participants, including the Liberia Peacebuilding Office, to address some of the challenges faced by the country.

Meanwhile, Liberia Peace Ambassador Eric Quaqua has expressed concern over the absence of stakeholders who play an important role in the ongoing three-day dialogues in the country.
