Pres. Boakai Declares Saturday, March 15, 216th Birth Anniversary of Pres. Roberts

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has declared Saturday, March 15, the 216th memorial birth anniversary of President Joseph Jenkins Roberts, to be observed throughout the Country as a National Holiday.

The proclamation aligns with an act of the 42nd Legislature in recognition of the Country’s first President as a mark of respect and reverence to his memory.

The day is also meant to recognize the untiring efforts of President Joseph Jenkins Roberts in organizing the first government of the republic and concluding treaties with foreign powers that gave recognition to the founding of the Liberian nation.

President Boakai said it is befitting that such honour accorded the memory of the distinguished statesman serves as a challenge to all Liberians to aspire to higher and nobler endeavours by emulating his courage and commitment to the principles of democracy.

The Liberian Leader has also ordered all government offices and public and business houses to be closed on that day in observance of the occasion.
